arXivの番号付けが変わる - flatlineの日記跡地

（昔，ちょっとだけ会話したことのある）山崎さんの日記より：

(12/6)皆さんはarXivのidentifierが変わるのをご存知だろうか。5月の自分達の論文の最後の3桁が780だったので、三桁で足りているのだろうかと気にはなっていたが、どうも今月のmathは960まで行ってしまったようで、桁数が不足するのはもはや時間の問題だったわけだ。

All new papers will have identifiers with the following form:
arXiv:0701.0001
...
Note that the identifier will no longer contain any classification information. This will instead be indicated through other user-interface features. For example, the stamp added to the side of the PDF versions of arXiv papers will have the form:
arXiv:0701.0001v1 [q-bio.CB] 1 Jan 2007
which indicates v1 of the paper arXiv:0701.0001 which has primary classification q-bio.CB, and was submitted on 1 January 2007.

うーん cond-mat/07010001 みたいに一桁増やせば済むはずだが... 全くの想像だが「複数分野へのcross postが増えており，分野を分けて数えることにもはや意味がない」とかそういう事情だろうか？ http://www.example.com/ とか mailto:john＠example.com みたいな，いわゆる "URI" に沿う形式にしたのはもっともだが．
